As a filmmaker, I had the opportunity to attend the Cannes Film Festival a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with the organization and along with the glamor and quality of the festival, I realized they had an immense respect for the film community. And for these reasons, I created the NYCIFF with the purpose to discover new and talented filmmakers and to promote established ones from the U.S. and around the world. I want to give them a high-profile platform in New York to showcase their creative work to a vast and diverse audience. In essence, I would like to create a festival that is modeled on Cannes where filmmakers, producers and actors can showcase and share their projects, initiate co-productions and have a mechanism to sell their films. Last year, in our inaugural festival, there were five films that were picked up for distribution. This motivated me to create the official NYCIFF Film Market. This year  filmmakers from around the world will meet in a 3-day intense seminar to pitch/showcase their films to several domestic and international distributors. We expect many more films will receive distribution this year.
I invite you to join us August 8 – 16, 2012 where the best of world cinema will be on display in New York City.
